What can I expect after a colon stent?

Here's what you can typically expect after having a colon stent placed:

- Immediate relief from obstruction symptoms - Once the stent opens up the narrowed section of the colon, symptoms like abdominal pain, constipation, and nausea should improve quickly.

- Hospital stay - You'll be monitored in the hospital for 1-3 days after the procedure to manage any immediate complications.

- Diet changes - Your doctor will likely recommend a low-fiber diet at first to allow the stent to work effectively without obstructions from food particles. This may last a few days.

- bowel movements - You should be able to have bowel movements once the stent is in place, but they may be more loose or urgent at first. Your doctor can recommend medications to help control this.

- Cramping/discomfort - Mild abdominal cramping or pressure is common after placement and may last a few days as your colon adjusts. Your doctor can prescribe pain medications as needed.- Follow-up appointments 

- You'll need follow-up visits, scans, or endoscopies to make sure the stent is working properly and in the right position.
